Why did you become a student rep? It seemed like an interesting role, at the intersection of academics and students, with the opportunity to influence decisions relating to the programme on behalf of students.
What have you enjoyed most about being a student rep? It’s the first year that my MPhil is in its new form, so there have been many occasions to give feedback on students’ experiences and influence the programme. The programme is multi-disciplinary so it’s been great to discuss things with my peers, who are from such a wide range of backgrounds.
What have you enjoyed the most about studying at the School of Clinical Medicine? On my programme I’ve had lectures from many researchers who are world-class in their fields.

Why did you become a student rep? In the past I have engaged in advocacy for disabled students. As a student who benefits from disability services, equitable pedagogy is a cause that is really near to my heart and I wanted to ensure that this perspective is represented.
What have you enjoyed most about being a student rep? As a student rep I have met various students on my course that I would have otherwise not have. I found myself engaging in really thoughtful dialogue with my peers and I have grown as a person as I engaged with so many individuals with such different backgrounds. Learning about my peers and their multifaceted backgrounds has been a privilege and has made me a better and more empathetic person; this is an experience that I am so grateful to have had.
What have you enjoyed the most about studying at the School of Clinical Medicine? The medical school librarians are AMAZING — a special shout out to Isla Kuhn who helped me so much when I was navigating the literature related to my dissertation topic! The mini-training sessions that the librarians run are incredibly helpful and gave me the confidence I needed while tackling my dissertation. The support I’ve received from the library staff and my brilliant lecturers is unbelievable and has made the daunting thought of pursuing a Master’s enjoyable and far less stressful than I had anticipated. I have always felt that there were people “in my corner,” so to speak, and that has made a world of difference.

Why did you become a student rep? Ever since I started doing research at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit during my undergraduate days, I absolutely loved the vibrant and friendly community in the department. Becoming the student representative was the perfect opportunity for me to help making the MRC CBU an even greater place for students to do their research.
What have you enjoyed most about being a study rep? The MRC CBU’s graduate student retreat at the start of the academic year is always an absolute highlight. Not only is it a great opportunity for students to meet, but especially also to introduce all new incoming graduate students to the student community.
What have you enjoyed most about studying at the School of Clinical Medicine? The incredible variety of research carried out within the School of Clinical Medicine really allows to see one’s own research in the wider context of the Medical Sciences. For me, as a Computational Neuroscientist, this was especially valuable, as it is easy to lose track of questions regarding clinical relevance when building abstract models of brains
